Designer troubleshooting

Quick answers to the things that most often trip people up in the designer.

I can't see the Animate button.

Select an element on the page first — Animate only appears for a selection. Use Layers if the object is behind another one. Check the More menu if the toolbar is crowded, and make sure you're not still in Crop mode.

My text disappeared.

Check for Hide in Layers, the object's transparency, and Fade's From/To values. If Edit as video is on, the playhead may be outside the element's time range or before its reveal. Turn it off to lay everything out, then back on to check timing.

My animation keeps repeating.

Read the helper text under Loop. For Move, Zoom, Bounce, Scrolling Text and Effects, 0 means Forever — use 1 for a single cycle. Typewriter is different: Repeat 0 means once, then stay. See Animation basics.

Move doesn't seem to move anything.

Check that From Point and To Point are different, then rewind and play. Also check the delay isn't beyond the available page or element time, and that the path doesn't leave the page.

My text is cut off or the animation ends too early.

Check the text box size, the page duration and the element's end handle on the timeline. Slow reveals and long tickers need more time. Check the playlist Runtime separately before publishing.

I can't move an object, or it's behind something.

Open Layers and unlock it. Use Position to change its stacking order, or select it directly from the layer list. If it isn't visible at the current time, turn Edit as video off for a moment.

How do I remove an animation?

In Animate, clicking an enabled Fade, Blink or Rotate effect again switches it off. The panel also has Remove All controls to clear the selected object's animation and effects. Use Undo if you remove more than you meant to.

Why does the designer look right but the screen is different?

The saved design, playlist Runtime, schedule and delivery are separate steps. Save the design, check the playlist and schedule, then push to the correct device. If the screen orientation doesn't match the design format, the content won't fill the display.
